The sun had its hat on today and it coincided with a limited opportunity to lose myself in nature. These days I spent most of my birding time on my doorstep visiting sites that form a nice circuit. Puddletown Water Meadows is living up to its seasonal name attracting a variety of wildfowl and gulls to the flooded ground.
My tally for this area is slowly creeping up towards the 100 species mark and there was another addition today thanks to a well stocked group of feeders in a garden that backs onto the meadows.
Whilst watching the feeders I saw a couple of Red Legged Partridge scuttling away along the edge of the field. This species is likely to be resident but it is only the second time I have seen them on the patch.
A Raven a handful of Snipe and good numbers of Lapwing and Wigeon were the other highlights before moving around the circuit.
Another species of note were wintering Green Sandpiper one noted at Athelhampton. The cress beds had their usual tally of this species some were closer than others!
